Bank of Maldives (BML) customers faced a three-hour service disruption due to a technical issue with the bank's mobile app today.
The app was "down for maintenance" from 14:30 in the afternoon until 17:30 in the evening. This resulted in many customers being unable to make transactions during this time.
BML, which currently has the largest customer base in the country with 345,000 customers, issued a statement explaining that they were experiencing a technical issue which interrupted services of both their mobile app and internet banking services.
Due to a technical issue, we’re facing interruptions to our Mobile App and Internet Banking. We’re working to resolve this as soon as possible. Our apologies for the inconvenience caused.— Bank of Maldives (@bankofmaldives) August 1, 2024
However, when BML's services were disrupted yesterday, the bank attributed the issue to technical problems connecting to Microsoft services globally.
Some Microsoft services were also disrupted globally in early July, with similar cases reported yesterday as well.
Reports suggest that the most recent service disruption also affected Microsoft's email service Outlook and Minecraft.
