President says no other party will be able to compete with MDP

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has stated that members of the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) should now focus on the presidential election, adding that no other party will be able to compete with MDP.
Speaking at the MDP Congress, President Solih commended President of MDP Mohamed Nasheed for withdrawing his proposal to vote on establishing a parliamentary system in the Maldives. He noted that there had been disagreements when the congress began, the most contentious of which was the vote on the parliamentary system. He said that concerns were voiced in the past few days but that the congress concluded with resolutions put forth as any mature political party.
Furthermore, President Solih said that each individual will have their own opinions and that political leaders tend to have certain qualities. He, however, said that congress has shown that people can put their own needs aside in order to move forward with their party and country. He praised the 1,200 attendants for the success of the congress and for resolving their differences.
Additionally, President Solih said that MDP has the largest public support and that a presidential candidate will be announced soon in accordance with the party regulations. He said that the party now needs to focus on winning the presidential election in 2023. He also called on party members to expand their political activities as soon as possible. He highlighted that MDP is the largest party in the country with numerous branches, local offices, as well as the main headquarters.
MDP Congress has successfully concluded after members voted to pass the proposed amendments to the party regulations.
