Maldives Reaffirms Commitment for Greater Representation of Women, Youth in Decision-Making

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has reaffirmed his Administration’s commitment to ensuring that women and youth have greater representation, so that all Maldivian voices are heard and valued at every level of decision-making.
In a message shared on X, to mark the International Day of Democracy, the President reiterated his commitment to achieving this goal, emphasising that the Maldives stands in solidarity with all those fighting for their rightful place in the world, particularly the people of Palestine.
The International Day of Democracy was established by the United Nations General Assembly in 2007 and was officially observed for the first time on 15 September the following year.
The date was chosen to commemorate the adoption of the Universal Declaration on Democracy by the Inter-Parliamentary Union in 1997, which affirms the principles and values of democracy.
The day serves as a reminder of the importance of democratic governance and encourages citizens to take an active role in political processes.
