Gemanafushi teacher’s transfer to Vaadhoo sparks backlash; Ministry says it’s temporary

The Education Ministry has been accused of unfairly transferring a leading teacher from G.A. Gemanafushi School to G.Dh. Vaadhoo School, despite a Civil Service Commission (CSC) ruling in his favor.
According to Sun’s sources, the teacher in question is Amanullah, who had served as a leading teacher at Gemanafushi School since 2020. He was dismissed on April 8 this year and now transferred to Vaadhoo.
Amanullah filed a complaint with the CSC on the same day. After more than five months, the Commission responded on September 22, stating that his dismissal violated the rules governing termination under the Delegation of Responsibility framework.
The CSC instructed the Education Ministry to restore Amanullah’s position at Gemanafushi School and pay him the Leading Teacher Responsibility Allowance for the period since his dismissal.
Two months later, on Tuesday, the Ministry formally notified Amanullah that his position would be reinstated. However, the very next day, he was informed that his job had been transferred to Jamaluddin School in Vaadhoo, and was instructed to report there starting Sunday.
Former MDP Chairman Fayyaz Ismail criticized the move on X, calling it a grave injustice.
“No one’s job should be changed based on words or opinions expressed. It is unacceptable, this revival of the policy of political influence and intimidation through ministries,” he wrote.
When contacted by Sun, the Education Ministry said Amanullah’s transfer to Vaadhoo was temporary, citing the absence of a principal at the school.
