Minister of Islamic Affairs Dr. Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed announced that the government intends to complete 15 major projects in the Islamic sector, including mosques and Islamic centres, before the start of the next Ramadan.
Speaking in the People’s Majlis, in response to a question from MDP’s Kendhoo MP Mauroof Zakir, the minister said President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has placed special emphasis on development in the Islamic sector. He added that over the past two years more than MVR 170 million has been allocated to private-sector companies working on these projects.
The minister stated that the planned projects will include mosques with a capacity of 500 people and Islamic centres with up to 700 people. Alongside completing these facilities, the ministry is also working to establish branches of "Quran Centres“ across islands countrywide. Where local qualified teachers are not available, overseas instructors will be recruited.
Minister Shaheem noted that meetings are underway to identify reasons for incomplete projects and to address the difficulties, and that no project will be terminated without completing legal procedures.
