Govt plans project to develop guesthouse business in Addu

Tourism minister Ahmed Adeeb told Haveeru that guesthouse businesses can be developed in Addu since the city is a strategic location with huge land space. The ministry’s cooperation was necessary to further develop the many guesthouses being operated in Addu, he said. The minister explained that his ministry would facilitate in developing transport infrastructure in the city. Plans have also been made to promote Addu as a tourist destination at global tourism fairs, and encourage private businesses to diversify water sports services and other recreational activities, he added. “This is one of the best locations for tourism, apart from this (Kaafu) atoll. Many parties want to invest in tourism in the area but have been unable to do so. The target of our project would be to encourage guesthouse businesses and facilitate the development of necessary services and resources,” the minister said. Addu City Council has now established an Addu Guesthouse Promotion Board to develop the business in the city. Adeeb assured that the government-sponsored project would go on in collaboration with Addu City Council and established guesthouse businesses. He also noted that the goal for establishing small and medium enterprises can also be achieved via this project.
