Case against the removal of two SC judges filed at Supreme Court

The issue of removing two Supreme Court judges due to the ratification of Amendment to Judicature Act in 2014، has been filed at the Supreme Court، requesting to nullify the Amendment.
The case was filed by the famous lawyers، Shahin Hameed، Mohamed Faisal and Hassan Maaz Shahreef، stating that the judges were removed against the constitution and rule of judiciary.
The three lawyers had previously filed the same case in High Court twice، however، the court had rejected the case. They had now appealed the case in Supreme Court.
Following the Amendment to Judicature Act in 2014، the then Chief Justice Ahmed Faiz Hussain and Supreme Court Judge Ahmed Mu’thasim Adnan were removed from the Supreme Court bench.
The removal of two judges raised many international criticism as well as local ones، against the government، stating the government’s decision was unconstitutional and against the framework of the judiciary.
Following the removal of two judges، Judge Ahmed Saeed was appointed the new Chief Justice.
