Development projects of past three years halted: Nasheed

Former President Mohamed Nasheed has said that the development projects started in the Maldives in the past three years are currently halted.
Nasheed said while speaking at a Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) rally in Addu last night that the current government does nothing for the development of the country.
He criticised President Dr Mohamed Waheed’s government, and said that the government is unable to even pay salaries to its employees. “We are saddened by the fact that the government not only does not carry out any development projects, but cannot even pay salaries. The country is going bankrupt because of their self-interest,” he said.
Nasheed said that drug use is once again on the rise in Addu, and stressed that it is MDP’s pledge to close all doors to drugs.
Last night’s MDP rally was held at the Equatorial Convention Centre, which was built for the latest SAARC Summit. This is the first time a political party holds a gathering at the Convention Centre.
Nasheed arrived in Addu yesterday, as part of MDP’s campaign trip to the south, Journey of Pledges, from 1 – 14 October.
MDP said that Addu is the last stop of this journey, and that Nasheed and the rest of the participants will travel back to Male’ this afternoon.
