Hithadhoo shore protection project kicks off

Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) commences shore protection project in Addu City Hithadhoo.
MTCC launched the physical works of the project at a special ceremony held last Thursday, October 6.
Minister of National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure Mr. Mohamed Aslam attended the opening ceremony. He was flanked by MTCC CEO Adam Azim, along with Central Hithadhoo and South Hithadhoo MPs Ahamed Rasheed and Ibrahim Nazil respectively.
Additionally, Addu City Mayor Mr. Ali Nizar attended the ceremony.
The initiative is an important one under President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih’s administration, reports MTCC. Completion of the project will provide spacious area for Addu beach goers, and swimming area for ardent swimmers.
Project components entail sand filling in an area of 6,891 cubic meters, and dredging of a 975 cubic meters area for swimming. Other components include a 100 meter breakwater, and installation of geo-tube structure stretching 570 meters.
The project value is reportedly a total of MVR11.64 million.
