11-year-old Izkan to lead Taraweeh as Imam at Noor Mosque

Minister of Islamic Affairs Dr. Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed announced on Thursday that 11-year-old Izkan Ajeeb Hussain will be offering the Taraweeh prayers at Noor Mosque in Male' City during the upcoming fasting month of Ramazan.
Izkan has learnt the Quran by heart. After attaining the title of Hafiz, he met the Minister of Islamic Affairs, accompanied by his parents.
Sharing a picture of himself with Izkan’s family on social media, the minister said that during the meeting, Izkan requested that he be allowed to lead the Taraweeh as an Imam during Ramazan. The minister said he assured Izkan that he would get the opportunity.

Izkan would lead the Taraweeh prayers as the Imam at Noor Mosque, Minister Shaheem announced.
The Ministry of Islamic Affairs has been encouraging the children who attain the status of Hafizs to go further. A decision has also been announced recently to allow students above Grade 10 to perform as Imams and lead the Friday prayers at mosques in Male’ and other islands.
