Auditions are being opened for the 38th National Qur’an Competition.
According to the National Centre for Holy Qur’an, applications can be submitted from tomorrow onwards via the portal on their website. Registration will be open until 18th May.
The centre has stated that amendments have been made to the rules of the competition to facilitate equal opportunities for as many participants as possible, as well as to increase competitiveness and enhance the quality of the contest.
Participants should be Maldivian residents under 26 years of age and may participate on an individual level. From 2026 onwards, the National Qur’an Competition will be carried out in three rounds. These are the audition round, semi-final and final rounds of the competition. The competition has been divided into eight different age groups, and also has a separate category for Huffaz.
The audition round will be held between participants who have registered for the competition prior to the deadline. It is scheduled to be held in Male’ and other islands as determined by the National Centre for Holy Qur’an. Participants may take part in auditions in the closest location to them.
A total of 500 participants with the highest scores in the top 80 percent of each category would be eligible for the semi-final round. Meanwhile, the top 150 participants scoring above 85 percent in each category would be qualified for the final round.
The final round will be carried out in Male’, with eligible participants travelling from other islands to be provided an allowance. The top three will be selected for both categories, namely recitation and recitation by the heart. Also, a top three will be awarded for the Hafiz category, in addition to the prior two, with a Presidential Award to given to the winners.
Furthermore, a special Presidential Scholarship will be given to the winners of each category, allowing them to pursue higher education in a desired field up until a postgraduate degree level from a chosen country.
