Ihavandhoo Council Awards MVR 50,000 Encouragement Prize to Rayya, the Island’s First Hafiza

Mariyam Rayya Ahmed (20 years old), from Noothari / H.A. Ihavandhoo, has memorized the Holy Quran and attained the certificate of Hafiz. The Islamic Ministry confirmed that Rayya had memorized the Holy Quran and achieved the Hafiz certificate. Furthermore, the Minister of Islamic Affairs, Dr. Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed, met with Rayya and her family to congratulate and encourage them. Rayya is the first Hafiz in the history of Ihavandhoo to memorize the Holy Quran and achieve the certificate of Hafiza (female Hafiz). The Ihavandhoo Council congratulated Rayya on this achievement and extended their felicitations to her family. Regarding Rayya’s success, the President of Ihavandhoo Council, Ahmed Sabah, told “Thiladhoon” that this achievement is a great honor and source of pride for the island. Sabah also noted that Rayya is the first female Hafiz to receive the MVR 50,000 prize, which the Council decided to award to every island resident who achieves the Hafiz certificate. According to the latest information released by the Islamic Ministry, the total number of Hafizes in the Maldives has reached 284. With the addition of Rayya to this list, the current number has now risen to 285. Under the pledge made by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu to increase the allowance given to those who memorize the Holy Quran and achieve the Hafiz certificate, the Hafiz allowance was increased starting from August of this year. Previously, the government provided Hafizes with an allowance of MVR 2,000. However, that amount has been changed to MVR 4,000 starting from August.
