President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has announced that a project to redevelop Sultan Park will be commenced soon. Under this, the park will be adapted in a traditional Maldivian manner, with new games introduced.
Speaking at the ceremony to inaugurate the Presidential Jetty, President Muizzu said that the Sultan Park had been left unmaintained, and the government has now taken over care for it. The park was previously under the care of Male' City Council.
The President said that the government would redevelop the park in a manner that demonstrates the Maldivian identity and history.
He said that with the use of modern technology, the park would be developed into a place of learning and entertainment for children and youth.
The park would also offer new games, such as bowling, he said.
He said that the development of the park would begin within the next six months.
The current park was designed under President Muizzu when he was serving as Housing Minister under the previous administration of former President Abdulla Yameen. At the time, the park had included a Snow Park as well, which has since been shut down.
