Vice President encourages all citizens to contribute to building a strong and prosperous economy

Vice President Hussain Mohamed Latheef has called on all Maldivians to actively participate in the development and rebuilding of a strong and prosperous national economy. He made these remarks at the launching ceremony of the National Human Capital Needs Assessment Survey Report held today.
Speaking at the event, the Vice President noted that creating new employment opportunities over the next five years is a key commitment under President Dr Mohamed Muizzu’s manifesto. He added that over the past 18 months, significant efforts have been initiated to fulfil this goal.
To this end, the Vice President highlighted that the Cabinet has resolved to identify sectors where employment will be reserved exclusively for Maldivians. He also noted the introduction of targeted incentives to increase Maldivian participation in essential service sectors such as health and education, as well as the launch of the National Service Programme and other focused economic initiatives.
Underscoring the collective responsibility of the people, the Vice President stated that every Maldivian has a role to play in building and sustaining a financially resilient and thriving nation. He also encouraged the Government to ensure that the benefits of new employment and income-generating opportunities reach all citizens.
The National Human Capital Needs Assessment Survey Report was conducted jointly by the Ministry of Higher Education, Labour and Skills Development and the World Bank. The study aimed to identify gaps in the labour market, outline the skills required for various jobs, and highlight the challenges faced by local youth in the workforce. The findings will inform both short-term and long-term strategies aligned with the priorities outlined in the President’s manifesto.
