Speaker of the Parliament and leader of the Jumhoory Party (JP) Mr.Qasim Ibrahim has stated that former President Mr.Mohammed Nasheed told him that he cannot wait for 5 years without assuming a position of power.
Speaking at a press conference held at JP’s headquarters, Mr.Qasim stated that Mr.Nasheed will be the downfall of President Solih’s administration. Mr.Qasim said that the former president intends to change the system of government into a parliamentary system so that he can become the prime minister.
Mr.Qasim said that while he was in exile in Europe, Mr.Nasheed told him that he cannot wait for 5 years and that he told him not to do that and to wait.
Even though Mr.Qasim Ibrahim is a member of the ruling coalition, the relation between him and ruling MDP turned sour after MDP decided to run for all the seats in the parliament, violating the agreement they made with JP prior to the elections.
Since then JP has decided to team up with opposition PPM/PNC coalition for the April elections.
