Maldives’ leader urges international community to translate solidarity with Palestinians into meaningful action

Maldivian President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has urged the international community to translate their solidarity with the Palestinian people into meaningful action.
In a post on X on Saturday morning on occasion of the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People, President Muizzu sad that the reality on the ground in Palestine remains devastating, despite the shaky ceasefire.
He said that the repeated violation of the fragile ceasefire, the relentless Israeli strikes on Gaza, the continued settlement expansion, and the severe restrictions on daily life deny Palestinians stability and the prospect of an economically viable future.
“Now more than ever, we call on the international community to translate solidarity into meaningful action, and to work collectively to ensure that the legitimate rights and aspirations of the Palestinian people are fully realized,” he said.

He also reaffirmed Maldives’ unwavering commitment to stand resolutely with the Palestinian people, and reiterated its steadfast support for the recognition of Palestine as an independent and sovereign State, based on the pre-1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
Israel’s genocidal war in Gaza has killed more than 69,700 Palestinians. But despite the official truce, Israel continues to attack periodically, killing over 347 people since the ceasefire began on October 10.
