Maldives Zakat House, recently established by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, launched its website yesterday.
The website was inaugurated by the Grand Imam of Islamic Center, Sheikh Mohamed Latheef, at a ceremony held in the Islamic Ministry.
Designed as the go-to website for all Zakat needs, it is linked with the Maldives Inland Revenue Authority (MIRA) for Zakat online payments.
The website is exclusively dedicated to Zakat and features forms, regulations, announcements, news, educational information about Zakat, and religious insights.
Additionally, it provides details of Zakat services, application procedures, and information about the leadership, administrative structure, vision, and mission of the Zakath House.
The website also hosts an online library with books and writings about Zakat, providing easy access to necessary information related to Zakat in the Maldives.
According to the President’s Office, the Zakat House, launched on 2nd January, aims to strengthen the Maldivian Zakat system, expand the Zakat Fund, and invest in areas approved by Shariah to maximize beneficiary benefits.
The Zakath House plans to accept and disburse Zakat, announce the nisab for Zakat Al-Mal twice a year, and update the national registry of individuals below the poverty line.
It is also tasked with spreading Zakat teachings, educating individuals, businesses, and state agencies on Zakat rulings, and organizing social programs to elevate Zakat receivers to future contributors.
Islamic Minister Mohamed Shaheed Ali Saeed considers running a successful Zakat House a key target.
Zakat, one of the Five Pillars of Islam, is an obligatory charitable contribution aimed at supporting those in need and promoting social welfare. It is viewed as a fundamental religious duty based on wealth redistribution and community solidarity, fostering empathy and compassion towards the less fortunate, and promoting social justice and cohesion within the Muslim community.
