His Excellency President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has extended warm greetings to Her Excellency the Honourable Ms Sam Mostyn AC, Governor-General of the Commonwealth of Australia, and the Honourable Anthony Albanese MP, Prime Minister of the Commonwealth of Australia, on the occasion of Australia Day.
In his letter to the Governor-General, President Dr Muizzu highlighted the growth of bilateral engagements in areas including tourism, education, and capacity building. He noted that Australia's support for education, particularly through scholarships, has contributed immensely to human resource development in the Maldives and strengthened the bonds between the two nations.
In his letter to the Prime Minister, the President acknowledged the friendship between the two countries, grounded in mutual respect, shared democratic values, and close ties within the Commonwealth. He expressed appreciation for Australia's role in supporting regional peace and stability.
President Dr Muizzu further noted that as maritime nations, the Maldives and Australia share strong common interests in addressing climate change and promoting sustainable development, and conveyed confidence that the partnership will continue to strengthen in the years ahead. He extended personal best wishes for the good health and wellbeing of both leaders, and for the continued peace and prosperity of the people of Australia.
On his official X account, the President described the Maldives' deep appreciation for Australia as a close partner in development, wishing all Australians good fortune and continued prospects to attain new heights of progress and prosperity.
Australia Day is observed annually on 26 January.
