Maldives Police Service, on Monday, said they are struggling to determine the gender of the deceased person found off the coast of R. Kinolhas on Sunday evening due to severe decomposition.
The Police, on Sunday, said they received a report after a dead body was spotted floating at sea near Kinolhas at 16:24pm that evening, without disclosing any further details.
In an update on Monday, the Police said they are struggling to determine even the gender of the deceased due to severe decomposition.
The Police added that it was presently undertaking efforts to collect forensic samples required for their investigation and complete other due processes.
As such, the authority added it had no further information to offer regarding the deceased at this time.
It is not uncommon to find bodies at sea in the Maldives, a nation surrounded by sea. Often times, the bodies are identified as individuals who have gone missing at sea under various circumstances such as bad weather.
