Janab Ibbe predicts PNC will secure 98 percent in council elections

Mahchangolhi North MP Ibrahim Mohamed (Janab Ibbe) said on Sunday evening that the ruling PNC is on track to win 98 percent of the vote in the upcoming April 4 local council elections.
Speaking on SSTV’s Baaru Hathareh programme, Ibrahim said the party is finalizing its list of candidates following its primary held on January 27. He said the process would be completed within the week.
According to Ibrahim, the PNC is fielding around 1,300 candidates, including those contesting seats in Women’s Development Committees. In contrast, he noted that the opposition MDP is not contesting around 300 seats.
“My estimate is that we will get 98 percent. What I am saying is that the president is upholding the trust of the people,” he said.
Ibrahim argued that President Dr Mohamed Muizzu is fulfilling his pledges, and that voters prefer councils that will cooperate with the government to deliver on those commitments.
He pointed to the government’s Housing for All policy, launched in mid‑November, under which 7,500 flats and 15,000 plots are to be allocated. Applications for both were opened on Sunday.
Ibrahim claimed that electing opposition councillors could hinder the implementation of such programmes, including the distribution of land. He added that even some MDP supporters may prefer PNC candidates for this reason.
He said the public has confidence in the government’s agenda and in the PNC.
