Parliament Extends Second Session By A Week

Lawmakers on Tuesday voted to extend the Parliament’s second session by another week.
Parliament Speaker Abdul Raheem Abdulla proposed the move to extend the session to wrap up the pending work before the session ends on 15 August.
His motion to extend the ongoing second session until 21 August was passed with 59 lawmakers voting in favour while 10 opposed.
According to the Parliament Rules of Procedure, each year is divided into three sessions, with the first session from 1 February to 15 May, the second from 1 June to 15 August followed by the third session running from 1 October to 30 November.
However, sessions can be extended if a motion to do so is passed by Parliament majority.
