All but one presidential candidate sign voters' list

All candidates, except independent candidate Umar Naseer, have signed the voters' list for the upcoming presidential election.
The Elections Commission of the Maldives (ECM) closed the opportunity for the candidates to sign the final voters' list on August 27. ECM stated that all candidates, except Umar Naseer, have signed the list to confirm its validity. The act of signing the voters' list began after the Supreme Court released the guidelines following the 2013 presidential election.
The presidential election is scheduled to be held on September 9 and a possible second round will be held on September 30. ECM will be placing 574 ballot boxes and a total of 282,395 individuals eligible to vote in the election, including over 27,000 new voters.
The election marks a significant milestone as it witnesses the largest number of candidates vying for the presidency since the inception of the multi-party system. As such, eight candidates are contesting the presidential election, including five candidates from parties and three independent candidates.
