The Council has said that there has been no electricity in the connected islands of Addu Atoll since 17:00 hrs this afternoon.
Fenaka said that the power interruption to islands connected to Hithadhoo CPS had been caused due to damage to an HV cable during road construction work.
Addu Mayor Ali Nizar said that electricity has not been completely restored yet, but added that Fenaka is working on it. He said that from 22:00 hrs onwards, electricity services will begin being restored in the islands.
Nizar has even previously expressed concerns about the low standard of the electricity, water and sewerage services in Addu.
Last April, a Chinese company was contracted to resolve electricity issues in Addu. They are to establish a powerplant with modern facilities that will allow 30 megawatts usage.
Once the project, spanning over 12 years, is entirely completed, a powerplant with the capacity to provide up to 50 megawatts will be established, Fenaka has said. Along with this, they said, once the Hulhumeedhoo Bridge is completed, that island too will be provided electricity.
