Leader of Jumhooree Party (JP) Qasim Ibrahim have said that JP will accept good proposals made to the party by everyone.
After a meeting with Maumoon Abdul Gayoom, Qasim said that Maumoon made very good proposals to JP and that he accepts his suggestions.
Qasim said that JP will always work for the greater good of the people. “ We will always work to balance internal and external freedoms and to ensure the rights of the citizens. Jumuhoory Party will always work towards this goal. The party council ensures to me that the party will always work to achieve party goals” said Qasim Ibrahim.
Qasim said that this meeting was held with the request of Maumoon and that they did not make any decisions in today’s meeting. Qasim also said that, according to PPM’s regulations Maumoon is still the President of the party and that he does not believe that, the position of the president can be taken away from Maumoon like that.
“I fully recognize the constitutional clause which states that no one can do anything against the by laws of political parties” said Qasim. Qasim said that JP will always stand against unlawful activities and that everyone should respect the law. “Hence all the institutions should follow the laws related to political parties, like they obey all other laws” said Qasim.
Qasim also welcomed Maumoon’s decision to withdraw his support to this government.
