Special Envoy of the UN, Senior Advisor to the UN Department of Political Affairs, Mr. Samuel Tamrat has concluded his visit to the Maldives. Mr. Tamrat's visit was to assist the Government with the Political Party Talks initiated by President Abdullla Yameen Abdul Gayoom. He arrived on the 16th of April 2016.
During his visit, Mr. Tamrat met with President Yameen, Cabinet Ministers, representatives of the Government in the All-Party Talks, and members of the Political Parties involved in the talks. He also made a visit to Colombo, Sri Lanka, and met with the foreign diplomats designated to the Maldives.
Noting that the Special Envoy's efforts in moving forward the Party Talks was successul President Yameen conveys his gratitude to the UN, especially to the UN Special Envoy Mr. Tamrat for his effort and contribution. He also expresses his thanks to all Political Parties for their positive engagement with Mr. Tamrat.
Noting that the UN and Mr. Tamrat will continue their role in the Political Part Talks, President Yameen wishes to reassure the UN, members of the international community, all Political Parties of the Maldives, and the Maldivian people, of the Government's commitment to facilitating successful All-Party Talks.
