The child sexual abuse case is now under investigation of both police and gender ministry. People who spoke from Hinnavaru on Tuesday said the woman had allowed her daughter to be sexually victimized by her lover so as to cast a “spell” to give the woman a more prosperous life. The woman, who belongs to an island in Noonu Atoll, is a divorcee. “First, the man had sexual relations with the mother. Then started sexually abusing the daughter – against her will, in the mother’s presence,” said a woman from Hinnavaru. She said the girl was in a serious state, both physically as well as mentally, due to the abuse allowed by her mother. The girl is now under protection of her father’s family.
