All four political parties asked for more time: Mujthaba

Dhivehi Rayyitunge Party (DRP), Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM), People’s Alliance (PA) and Adhaalath Party had pulled out of the road-map talks until the parliament reconvened. After stymieing the opening of Parliament on March 1, the Parliament had reconvened on Monday and President Dr Mohamed Waheed Hassan Manik had addressed the assembly amidst slogan shouting Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) MP’s. Mujthaba revealed that after the Parliament had reconvened he had contacted the four political parties and as they had requested for more time it was difficult to say when the talks would be held. “They told me that they can only reach a decision after consultations from within their respective parties. They would have hierarchies that must be followed,” Mujthaba added. The road-map talks had collapsed after holding five meetings. Though an agenda had been drafted during the meetings, major disputes arose in relation to the ordering of the items on the agenda.
