Local firefighters on Wednesday saved an apparently suicidal woman from jumping off a building ledge in the reclaimed suburb Hulhumale.
Pictures of the visibly distressed woman was perched on the ledge of a second floor balcony was widely shared on social networking sites before firefighters were called in to save her.
The woman was rescued after firefighters used a ladder to reach her and pulled her inside the apartment, Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) spokesperson said.
The woman had not resisted when firefighters had attempted the rescue, spokesperson added.
Police are now investigating the incident.
