The Parliament, this Tuesday afternoon, voted on the composition of the Parliament’s committees, effectively handing ruling Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) control over all 17 of the permanent committees.
According to the report presented by the interim committee charged with selecting members to the permanent committees this Tuesday, 16 permanent committees will have total 176 slots – out of which MDP will be allocated 132 slots – making up for 75 percent.
Jumhoory Party (JP) and Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) will have been allocated 10 slots (six percent) each.
People’s National Congress (PNC) has been allocated six slots, Maldives Development Alliance (MDA) has been allocated four slots, and independent members have been allocated total 14 slots.
