Nasheed’s 30-day medical release nullified

The 30-day medical release granted to jailed former president, Mohamed Nasheed, has been cancelled by Maldives Correctional Service (MCS).
Speaking to press, Commissioner of Prisons Mohamed Husham said the medical leave was granted so that Nasheed can undergo surgery on the 19th of this month, as per the documents submitted by his legal team. Husham said the cancellation was facilitated due to statements from Nasheed’s legal team, that he no longer needed surgery.
Husham added that the claims are now being reviewed, further noting the claims made at the time when the Government had instructed Nasheed to return back to the Maldives.
Husham further said 48 hour notices had been issued for former MP for Dhiggaru Constituency Ahmed Nazim and former Defense Minister Colonel (Rtd) Mohamed Nazim. He said failure to comply during this period, will result in the Commission launching a manhunt for the two individuals.
