PPM will be administered by President Abdulla Yameen even though the party president is Maumoon Abdul Qayyoom, because the Supreme Court of the Maldives has decided to uphold the Civil Court ruling allowing President Yameen to administer PPM.
One of the main reason that this happened is because majority of the party’s council members are with President Yameen. President Yameen now has the authority to run the party, till they can hold a national congress.
Even if supporters of President Maumoon are unhappy about the decision of Supreme Court, the decision cannot be changed. Even President Maumoon himself, repeatedly in the past have said that even if one is not happy with the rulings of the Supreme Court, it should be obeyed.
However, people are questioning Maumoon’s integrity because of the way some PPM members are behaving right now. People are saying that, Maumoon who is considered as the father of the nation refusing to accept a Supreme Court ruling is another challenge to Maldivian judiciary.
