President Abdullah Yameen Abdul Qayyoom has launched the construction of the China Maldives Friendship Bridge.
The project was commenced in a ceremony held in Dharubaaruge.
Chinese Vice Minister for Commerce Gao Yan, special Ambassador of Chinese Government, spoke in the ceremony, stating that 14 months was a relatively short period of time for the development of the bridge. However she said that the short period of time for the project showed the level of importance attached by the two nations for the project.
The agreement for the project was exchanged between Chinese Ambassador Wang Fukang and Housing Minister Dr. Mohamed Muizz.
The bridge design and completion of the project agreement was exchanged between China’s CCCC Company and Housing Ministry as well.
