President Yameen Abdul Gayoom has apologized from the people, regarding the MMPRC embezzlement case, since it happened during this administration.
Speaking at the ceremony held to inaugurate the water and sewage system development project in Fuvahmulah, he said that no matter how much a thief is monitored, thieves will always steal. He said that however, thieves will get the necessary punishments.
President said that, everyone should talk about the MMPRC case and about the killing of Dr.Afrasheem. But however, that those who resort to slander will have to face legal action.
The President said that while tourism brings in the most revenue for the state, some people are spreading lies in ways which will damage the tourism industry. He said that such lies include, saying that Maldives is a breeding ground for terrorists.
President said that such lies are spread by Maldivians who live abroad, self banished and live with the aid of foreigners. He said that these people do not have any sense of national responsibility, and do not love the nation at all.
In addition, the President vowed to implement death penalty no matter how angry the criminals get. “There are people who are concerned about this. But these people are not concerned about the rights of the people who are victims of killers” said the President.
President also thanked the opposition groups who demonstrated today when he visited Fuvahmulah. “They demonstrated to remind me to fulfill the promises I made. With the will of Allah, I will fulfil them” said President Yameen.
