The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to begin China-Maldives free trade agreement negotiations will be signed today.
This MoU will be signed during the second meeting of Joint Committee of Trade and Economic Cooperstion (JCTEC) which began today.
This meeting began today in Kurumba Maldives. Economic Minister، Mohamed Saeed and Fisheries Minister، Dr. Mohamed Shinee will also take part in this meeting.
The first meeting of this committee was held on 16th December 2014 in Beijing.
In that meeting، it was decided to carry out a joint facility study by both the countries. The facility study has concluded now. In relation to this study، today، a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) will be signed so begin Maldives free trade agreement negotiations.
Economic Ministry informs that the free trade agreement will benefit both the countries in terms of business. Moreover، the free trade agreement، once signed، will make it easier to trade between China and Maldives and will increase the chances of expanding investments.
Economic Minister Mohamed Saeed has said that the China-Maldives free trade agreement will be signed some time this year.
