Police have recovered MVR6 million of the money stolen in the Western Union heist on Sunday.
A group of masked men armed with knives robbed the Western Union branch in the capital Male after tying up several employees late Sunday.
Police had said the robbers had tied up the employees at knife point around 1145 pm and cleaned out the local money transfer outlet.
Police Monday confirmed that a total of MVR1 million and USD321,000 had been recovered.
However, Western Union still has not been able to confirm the exact amount of money stolen, police added.
Mihaaru has been unable to obtain an official comment from the money transfer outlet, but reliable sources say the robbers had been chased by some of the employees after the heist.
The robbers had reportedly dumped some of the money before getting away.
