The number of tourists visiting the Maldives from China has surpassed 82,000, solidifying its position as the top source market for the nation's tourism industry. According to the latest statistics released by the Ministry of Tourism, China currently leads the market share in tourist arrivals.
Data shows that as of yesterday, a total of 82,768 tourists have arrived from China, accounting for approximately 16 per cent of the total tourist arrivals to the Maldives this year. This surge highlights the significant recovery and growth of the Chinese market within the local tourism sector.
The Ministry's figures further reveal that the Maldives has welcomed a total of 526,767 tourists so far this year. This represents a 6.9 per cent increase compared to the same period last year. In comparison, the Maldives recorded 492,777 arrivals during the same timeframe in 2023, and 470,270 arrivals in 2022.
Currently, 1,291 tourist facilities are operating across the Maldives to cater to the growing number of visitors. This includes 180 resorts, 924 guesthouses, 171 safari vessels, and 16 hotels. These establishments provide a combined total of 67,420 operational beds for tourists.
