Tourism Minister Ahmed Adeeb has stated that the Government will enact all measures necessary to improve tourism sector and the Government had prioritized projects based on the principle.
He made the statements speaking in the 27th Joint Meeting of the UNWTO Commission for East Asia and Pacific (CAP) and the UNWTO Commission for South Asia (CSA) & UNWTO Regional Ministerial Conference on Positioning Tourism in a Wider Socio-economic Context presently being held in Bandos Island Resort.
Adeeb stated that the Government had initiated projects to expand the bed capacity in the resorts and that the Government had granted an important boost to the project by slashing import duty for related products to the project. He added that the project in Laamu Atoll was engineered to grant the benefits of the project to a wide audience, based on multiple concepts which would grant many benefits to the public.
Additionally, Adeeb stated that with the development of Hulhumaale’ Phase two, additional tourist facilities and services would be available from the island as well. He further stated that development of Ibrahim Nasir International Airport would also be a boost to the sector.
Minister Adeeb said that the maximum available amount from the budget has been allocated to boosting the sector and added that resources have been obtained to properly market Maldivian tourism. He noted that Maldives was the main sponsor for next year’s ITB fair.
Adeeb added that improving tourism was a vital part of the economic plan laid out by President Abdullah Yameen Abdul Qayyoom and would yield enormous benefits to the public.
