Jumhooree Party’s PG Group’s Deputy Leader Abdulla Riyaz has said that discussions will be held with all political parties when necessary to bring rectification.
Abdulla Riyaz stated that if the maximum age of presidential candidates are set for 65 years then this will deprive many from their right to run for Presidency. He said that the Jumhooree Party does not believe in setting any maximum age limit for presidential candidates.
“No country in the world has every set such a maximum age limit. Therefore if necessary we are ready to hold discussions with MDA or PPM,” he said.
Abdulla Riyaz said that the PG group of Jumhooree Party has held many discussions regarding the matter and all members unanimously agreed to reject this amendment.
“We make all decisions after holding discussions with our PG group. In every issue we hold discussions. Even in the issue of the removal of two judges we issued a free whip line after holding discussions with the members,” he said.
Abdulla Riyaz reiterated that the Jumhooree Party will do everything possible to uphold the governance of law and the constitution in Maldives.
He noted that the leader of the Jumhooree Party, Gasim Ibrahim was the Speaker of the special Majlis that passed the constitution and he is from those who has sacrificed a lot to bring democracy to Maldives.
