The United Kingdom has become the second-largest tourist source market for Maldives.
According to statistics released by the Tourism Ministry, 70,600 tourists had arrived from the UK as of April 5. Until the end of March, Russia held the second position, with 70,500 tourists visiting Maldives so far this year.
China remains the top source market with 77,000 tourists.
So far this year, 670,000 tourists have visited Maldives. In each of the past three months, more than 200,000 tourists arrived in Maldives. This represents approximately a six percent increase compared to the first three months of last year, when 630,000 tourists visited.
By the end of last year, the United Kingdom was the third-largest source market for tourists to Maldives. As UK tourist arrivals increase, a campaign to promote Maldives as a tourism destination partner of Liverpool FC, one of England's most famous football clubs, has begun.
The government stated that Maldives was established as Liverpool Club's "Official Tourist Destination Partner" to increase the promotion of the Maldives tourism brand and encourage more tourists to visit Maldives.
Under this agreement, Maldives will be promoted as Liverpool's destination partner in various club activities for three years and six months.
