Parliament approves Thoriq as UAE Ambassador and Adam Shareef to Qatar

The Parliament has endorsed President Dr Mohamed Muizzu’s nomination of two former cabinet members to serve as Maldives’ newest diplomatic representatives.
Former Minister of Climate Change and Environment, Thoriq Ibrahim will be the Ambassador to the United Arab Emirates, while former Minister of Cities, Local Government and Public Works Adam Shareef Umar will take up the post of Ambassador to Qatar.
The appointments were ratified by a parliamentary vote of 57 in favour.
The parliamentary Foreign Relations Committee, earlier, had given its approval after assessing the candidates’ extensive education and government experience, deciding that no further interview was necessary. Thoriq has held ministerial and senior positions in multiple administrations, and Adam Shareef continues to serve in a senior capacity at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, giving them the requisite expertise for the ambassadorial roles.
