Dialysis Services Launched at B. Dharavandhoo Health Center

B. Dharavandhoo Health Center has officially launched dialysis services, marking a significant step towards expanding access to critical healthcare across the Maldives. The service was inaugurated by Health Minister Abdullah Nazim Ibrahim during an official ceremony held at the health center.
The newly introduced unit is equipped with two dialysis beds and features a specialist nephrologist stationed on-site, allowing patients with kidney-related illnesses to receive treatment without the need for long-distance travel. Dialysis treatment is typically provided four hours per session, two to three times a week, to cleanse the blood of individuals whose kidney function has severely declined.
According to the Ministry of Health, this launch is part of the government’s ongoing efforts to ease the burden on citizens from remote islands who previously had to travel to Malé to access such services. With the Dharavandhoo facility now operational, dialysis services are pending establishment in only ADh. Atoll, V. Atoll, F. Atoll, and D. Atoll.
The government reiterated its commitment to strengthening healthcare infrastructure nationwide and ensuring that life-saving treatments like dialysis are made accessible, affordable, and closer to home.
