The investigative report on the Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) embezzlement case does not contain names of any parliamentary candidate backed by Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), claims party leader Mohamed Nasheed.
Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC)’s recently publicized report discloses names of companies and politicians who received money embezzled from MMPRC during former President Abdulla Yameen’s administration.
According to the report, while the state was to receive USD 77.5 million as acquisition cost from leasing 57 islands, only USD 12.5 million entered MMPRC.
Most of the money went to a company called SoF in the form of check endorsements from MMPRC, which amounted to USD 59.5 million, and MMPRC gave out around USD 5.55 million to other bank accounts.
The report also states that Abdulla Rasheed is the individual who received most of the embezzled money from SoF. While Abdulla Rasheed received USD four million, the Ministry of Economic Development’s documents do not show that he conducted any business transactions with the state during 2014 and 2015, when the embezzlement took place.
