I have taken refuge at the Indian High Commission: Nasheed

Nasheed in a tweet confirmed that he has taken refuge at the Indian High Commission in Male. "Mindful of my own security and stability in the Indian Ocean, I have taken refuge at the Indian High Commission in Maldives," Nasheed said on twitter. Nasheed had spent hours inside the High Commission before his tweet apparently waiting for the Indian High Commissioner DM Mulay. Mulay was en-route to Male when Nasheed had gone to the High Commission. The ex-President has sought refuge at the Indian High Commission after the Hulhumale Magistrate Court on Tuesday had ordered the Police to produce Nasheed in court for the hearing scheduled for 4.00pm on Wednesday to face charges over the arrest and subsequent detention of Chief Criminal Judge Abdulla Mohamed. As the Indian High Commission is a designated diplomatic area, he cannot be arrested till the time he remains inside the complex. But Nasheed’s legal team had appealed the court order at the High Court on Wednesday morning and the appeal hearing was cancelled as Nasheed could not be served with the summon. The Court order was issued as Nasheed had been absent at the hearing held last Sunday. Nasheed's attorney said that the ex-President was unable to attend the court on Sunday due to medical reasons and that it had been duly informed to the court. Nasheed had not returned to Maldives from his visit to India at the time.
