SAARC Food Bank meeting begins in Mal

The South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) Food Bank meeting is under way at Marble Hotel in Malé.
The annual two-day event was last held in New Delhi, India.
The purpose of the meeting is to discuss ways of cooperation within SAARC during food shortages following disasters.
Representatives from the seven SAARC countries will participate in the meeting. The representative from Maldives is Managing Director of State Trading Organisation (STO) Ahmed Shaheer.
Maldives became party to the Food Bank Agreement in 2004. The agreement was signed on 2 April 2004 by then Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr Ahmed Shaheed.
