Fatal Eydhafushi accident: Pickup driver’s remand extended by 15 days

The remand of the driver pickup driver involved in an accident in B. Eydhafushi that claimed the life of an elderly man has been extended by another 15 days.
The accident in question took place on January 15th.
The deceased has been identified as 82-year-old Aboobakuru Abdulla, Seasonge, Eydhafushi.
A resident from Eydhafushi who spoke with Sun said the accident took place on the evening of January 15th as Aboobakuru was hit by pickup while headed home from the mosque after Magrib prayer. Citing witnesses who saw the accident, the resident alleged that it was resulted by the negligence of the pickup driver.
Aboobakuru passed away on Friday while being treated at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) in Male’.
The 62-year-old Maldivian who was driving the pickup was first remanded in custody for 15 days upon arrest. The Police state his remand has been extended by an additional 15 days upon presentation before the court on Saturday, following the expiration of the initial remand period.
