Police have said today that former Managing Director of Housing Development Corporation (HDC) Ibrahim Fazul Rasheed is being accused of having disposed of official company documents.
In relation to the investigation into wrongful allocation of land plots under the Binveriya scheme, Fazul is under a travel ban with his passport having been seized.
A Police media official said today that Fazul has been questioned regarding the allegations against him, and official statements have now been taken.
He said that the travel ban against Fazul will continue to remain in place as the investigation proceeds.
No further details regarding the case have been disclosed to media yet.
In an earlier search of Fazul's residence conducted under the same investigation, a bag with MVR 1.4 million in cash was recovered, which was seized by the Police.
However, speed boat operator 'Relax Ferry Service' later claimed that the money belonged to them, stating the money had been paid to Fazul's company to commission building a speed boat.
