President Yameen have said that all ice plants that are currently not in operation will start operations within the next 2 months.
In a ceremony held this morning at STELCO to hand over membership forms of newly joined PPM members from Addu, the President said that MIFCO is progressing at a fast pace after it was made a subsidiary of STO.
In addition, he said that the fish cannery in Hulhumeedhoo will be completed by this September. He also noted that now there will be no problem in paying the fishermen for their products.
The president said that even though Maldives receives most revenue from tourism industry, fishing is the mean for income for many families. He said that hence, it is a priory for him to develop fishing industry.
The government has planned to start a bait cultivation program this year so that fishermen can get baits easily all year round. This project is worth more than 40 million dollars.
