A letter has been sent to President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom by the legal attorneys of ex-President Mohamed Nasheed requesting for a clemency on Nasheed’s verdict.
A letter signed by Lawyer Hassan Latheef states that President Yameen has the rights to issue leniency to Nasheed under Article 29 of the Clemency Act.
The verdict of issued on Nasheed was issued in a trial which was arbitrary، invalid and against international laws، the letter stated.
Former president Mohamed Nasheed is currently serving 13 years in jail، a verdict issued for proven terrorism charges for isolating and illegally detaining Abdulla Gaazee in 2012.
