Lawyers appeal to grant clemency on Nasheed’s verdict

A letter has been sent to President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom by the legal attorneys of ex-President Mohamed Nasheed requesting for a clemency on Nasheed’s verdict.
A letter signed by Lawyer Hassan Latheef states that President Yameen has the rights to issue leniency to Nasheed under Article 29 of the Clemency Act.‎
The verdict of  issued on Nasheed was issued in a trial  which was arbitrary، invalid and against international laws، the letter stated.
Former president Mohamed Nasheed is currently serving 13 years in jail، a verdict issued for proven terrorism charges for isolating and illegally detaining Abdulla Gaazee in 2012.
