China, Maldives sings grant aid agreement for Male’-Hulhumale’ bridge

China and Maldives has signed the grant aid agreement for the proposed bridge to be built between Male’ and Hulhumaale’.
President’s Office reported that the agreement was signed yesterday, following formal talks between President Abdullah Yameen Abdul Qayyoom and Chinese Vice President Lee Yuan Chao.
“Agreement on the Economic and Technical Corporation of Grant” was signed by Economic Minister Mohamed Saeed on behalf of the Government. Chinese Vice Minister of Commerce Wang Shouwengsigned the agreement for the Chinese Government.
President’s Office reported that discussions were carried out on the long standing friendship between the two nations and on strengthening the ties. Additionally, discussions were held on key issues put forward by the two nations.
No details were given by the President’s Office regarding the agreement that was signed yesterday. President’s Office Spokesperson Ibrahim Muaz Ali stated that agreement concerned the economic and technical projects to be run by the two nations.
Speaking to press prior to his departure to China, delegates of the Maldivian contingent reported that the discussions to be held on the trip would be focused on the grant aid projects between the two nations and speeding the Exim bank loan to be used in developing the airport, as well as Silk Route projects.
President’s Office Minister Mohamed Hussain Shareef (Mundhu) noted that Chinese companies were interested in the Government led projects such as I-havan project and 2nd phase of Hulhulmale’ development.
