A complaint on 11 year prison sentence issued on former defence minister Colonel Rtd. Mohamed Nazim will be filed in United Nations Working Group on Arbitrary Detention by the beginning of next month، says Nazim’s lawyer Husnu Al Suood.
In a press conference held today at his office، Suood said that a complaint will be filed in the Working Group saying the Nazim’s detainment was ‘arbitrary’ and the trial was against the rule of law.
Azim said that they are working with the Amnesty International for technical support، and the complaint will be officially filed in the working group during the first week of November.
Nazim was charged for possession of military grade weapons and plotting، and was sentenced to 11 years in prison on 27 March 2015.
Meanwhile، the united nations working group on arbitrary detention (UN WGAD) has decided in favour of the complaint filed by the former president Mohamed Nasheed on his 13 year jail sentence. However، the government has stated that they could not adhere or accept the opinions of the working group.
